Masalakulangwa Mabula
When Masalakulangwa was three years old, his father died. When he was 5 years old, his mother died. Because of the destitute conditions of his relatives, no one would take him into their care. As a result, Masalakulangwa was a street child from the age of 5 through 12 years of age living in the back alleys of Mwanza in Northwestern Tanzania, Africa. He spent these 8 years begging for food as he slept in abandon buildings trying to avoid the brutality of wild dogs, the police, and society. He is now 40 years old. What happened to him?
In 2002, Masalakulangwa earned a Master of Arts in Social Sciences at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom and in 2004, a Master of Arts in Religion at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin Texas. He is also a Anglican priest. He is a wonderful role model for those experiencing difficult times thinking they do not have the assets or opportunity to get ahead!
Masalakulangwa has returned to the streets of his difficult childhood and regularly rescues the at risk, street children hiding there, starving there, trying to survive as they experience the fear and traumas that Masalakulangwa knows too well.
Masalakulangwa established the Anglican Research Center (ARC) in his home diocese of Victoria Mwanza in Northwestern Tanzania. ARC presently cares for 184 orphans (160 are recent orphans between the ages of 4 and 7).
